GET CREATIVE, WIN GREAT PRIZES!

SWAN Hill region residents have the chance to get creative as part of this year’s Go North Arts Festival. Three new competitions – for writing, art and photography – are open for entries now, with winners to be announced during the festival this October.

Kim Bennett from the Go North Arts Festival Committee encouraged writers, artists and photographers to start thinking about their entries now.

“The Swan Hill region just has so much talent, talent that isn’t always shown off in the public arena,” Ms Bennett said. “We thought it would be great to get all those talented people and their work involved in the Go North Arts Festival this year. “And some great prizes have been lined up with wonderful support from local businesses, artists and industry organisations.”

The writing competition will include three short stories categories — secondary school, youth and open. The fourth category will be a super short story sent only via text.

“In the text competition, we want people to send us an original story up to 280 characters – it could be a poem, a riddle, whatever they like,” Ms Bennett said.

The youth art competition is open to primary and secondary students and there’s an
open category for those aged up to 18 as well.

Each artwork must have one or all of the items from the theme — “shadow, a mysterious stranger and a sign”.

“We want these young artists to think outside the square and show off the talent we know is out there in our region’s young people,” Ms Bennett said

And finally, all the region’s young photographers are encouraged to enter the photography competition. Staff at the Swan Hill Library are co-ordinating the Youthspective Photography competition.

Young photographers, 12 – 18 are encouraged to enter a picture that best represents their community. Entries will be open to voting by the public from 11th October.

Kellie Carlo from the Swan Hill Library has been overwhelmed by the support of local
businesses in providing prizes for the winners of this competition.

Entries for all competitions close on October 10.
